FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: My (child/nephew/friend)
knows a lot about computers,
why can't he make me a website?
This is a common and often costly mistake
that many small businesses make and unless this person is
an experienced web designer, we would highly recommend against
this.
An effective website that properly portrays your business
takes more then a general knowledge of computers, it also
takes expertise in marketing and advertising, web usability,
and applications development.
Q:What
is the difference between a professional and amature site?
Consider the following two websites. Both promoting the same
service, but you will notice that the LCN design on the right
is far more visually appealing. The result will be a better
visitor experience and improved customer confidence.
Many web developers make the mistake of using free graphics
and "borrowed" images when designing the graphical
elements of a website. When free graphical assets are used,
your site is bound to resemble low-end websites often used
by "fly-by-night" companies. An experienced designer
knows to avoid these similar techniques commonly used in
low-end websites.
Q: What level of web design
is really necessary to be successful?
A Genex/Synovate Customer Experience Survey of a cross-section
of 1,100 Internet users found that 65 percent do not shop
on a poorly designed site - even that of a favorite brand.
Nearly 30 percent even cease offline purchases from a favorite
brand if their online experience is poor. And for many,
a high quality product isn't enough to warrant struggling
with a confusing site: 30 percent of consumers reported
that web site design is more important than a great product.
Only 4 percent will shop on a poorly designed web site -
and that's when the price is rock- bottom.
Website design is not just about being pretty or slick -
it's about the customer experience online and that means,
ultimately, that it's about sales. As the survey showed,
there are substantial financial consequences when a company
does not pay enough attention to the usability and information
design of its website.
Q: How can this benefit my
business?
A large number of small businesses wish to convey a sense
that they are established and no different from their competitors
who are already established and trusted. Again, this can
be accomplished by utilizing a graphic appeal of a professionally
designed site.
You should also consider what level your competition is
at. Some industries are known for having a very low level
of appeal on their websites, if this is the case you can
gain a distinct competitive advantage in the eyes of potential
clients with a higher quality site.
Q: What do your developers
do differently?
Our designers utilize the same industry standard tools and
techniques used by other high-end designers. Our graphic
designers are very artistic and have experience with the
type of style used on a high-end website.
